About READ Groups

Purpose of a READ group:
To provide a place in which we are able to encourage one another, experience accountability, and pray together as we share how we are:
- Hearing from God through the scriptures
- Experiencing him in our life
- Confessing our struggles
- Participating with Him in his mission
Characteristics of a READ group:
- Hearing God, not a bible study. Discussion centers on how individuals are hearing from & experiencing God. It is not a bible study.
- 2-4 people so that the time together can be authentic, personal and participatory.
- Same gender to allow for open sharing of personal struggles.
- Formed around a community.
- Committed to multiply.
- Each group has at least one mentor who has a mentor.
READ Group Guidelines:
- Meet once per week for an hour
- Spend 45 minutes in discussion. 15 minutes in prayer together.
- Keep your sharing focused so that each member has time to talk.
- Everyone participates; no one dominates.
- We are here to support one another. We will not attempt to “fix” one another.
- Anonymity and confidentiality are basic requirements. What’s shared in the group stays in the group. The only exception is when someone threatens to injure themselves or others.
- Everyone agrees to help each other live up to these guidelines.
